Hello from Blogging with Apples

Welcome to the Blogging with Apples blog.  We are the McIntosh family and we live in Brewer, ME.  We started blogging in 2014 to detail our attempts to grow our own food and cook homemade meals on a tiny little city homestead.   It was a huge challenge due mostly to our lack of any sort of knowledge!

We have three kids; Norah is 8, Spencer is 4, and Alice is working towards her 1st birthday.  To us, they are “our maniacs” but we are told by others they are actually pretty good kids! Our hope is to instill in them a great sense of pride in working towards a more positive community through producing and enjoying home cooked food.  We don’t always live up to our own expectations but our plan is to continue to make baby steps in the right direction.

On our blog we plan to share with you how we grow our garden and what it costs us to do that.  Then we plan to show you the recipes we use to create meals from those harvests.  Keep in mind we are ranked amateurs at this with all of 5 years experience in vegetable gardening.  I personally have grown tomatoes in every wrong way you could imagine in that time.  I like to learn all my lessons the hard way!  What we lack in experience we try to make up for with enthusiasm and a desire to improve.

We are also quite fond of collecting antique recipes from family, friends, and even purchasing collections from antique stores.  There is a special history behind old notebooks filled with long forgotten family recipes that our grandparents enjoyed as kids and we are working our way through our collection making a photographing these treasures.

If nothing else we hope those of you reading our blog will feel comforted by all the mistakes we make along the way but we hope to inspire you through our successes as well!

We greatly appreciate the support we have been given in this undertaking. Thank you to all of you for reading!
